About the Client
Sun Microsystems is one of the largest companies in the world - developers of computer software and hardware systems with tens of thousands of employees across hundreds of countries of the world. They are the developers of the Sun Java programming language, so it was something of a surprise when they approached us to re-write one of their intranet applications in Java. The Sun intranet consists of millions of pages and applications - one of which (their worldwide training portal) was administrated by the Sun UK headquarters in Surrey. An internal resourcing issue led to them outsourcing a re-write of the application - and, with our Java development expertise, they contracted us to carry out the work for them
What we did for Them
- The Sun training intranet application was originally written in .asp - a Microsoft language
- The brief from Sun was to first re-write the application in Java - Sun's own language and more appropriate for a Sun tool
- Once re-written, stakeholders from across the world specified a range of enhancements and developments to the tool
